Gilbert is a large town located in Maricopa County, Arizona. The town, a suburb of Phoenix, was originally developed as a train station in the 1890's, . The town was named for William "Bobby" Gilbert, who donated the land for the train station. At that time, Gilbert  comprised 1 square mile, and was a very small agricultural town. Today, it is one of the fastest-growing areas in the state and now has a population of 192,000, within 73 square miles . It is also known for having a low crime rate for its size.

Recreation
There are several parks, recreation centers, pools and trail systems for locals to enjoy. One notable park is the Cosmo Dog Park, a 4-acre park meant specifically for use by residents with dogs; it is reputed to be one of the best dog parks in the country. Gilbert has two libraries, Perry Branch Library and Southeast Regional Library.
